Last night, as I watched the wheels come off the Red Sox, NESN broke into the game to announce and show that Bonds had indeed hit number 756.

On the video board at ATT Park they played video tributes to Bonds, the last given by The Hammer himself Henry Aaron—a class act always, a true giant of the game.

The commissioner was not in attendance, opting instead to meet with George Mitchell, the chief steroids investigator. A statement, I think.

What was witnessed last night was history. There is no doubt about that. It’s been done, the act committed, the record broken. Now we, the fans and consumers of the game of baseball, must decide what it means.

The 1919 World Series is part of history, and now 756 is also.
