Dear Kristine,
Never apologize for asking questions; an inquisitive mind truly is a priceless treasure.
As for your website question, I don't remember the site...was it in the context of the modern tide of Fundamentalism? If so, is it the site on PBS I mentioned in a comment? (See http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/faith/interviews/makiya.html) If not, can you refresh my memory?
As for the interplay between philosophy and faith, I believe that Myth (or Spirituality) and Reason must go hand in hand. There are just some things that require the heart (in addition to our mind) to forge the pathway to knowledge. Faith is the hope/belief necessary to go beyond the limits of our Intellect. Faith functions with Myth/Spirituality as the antidote to simplistic belief in pure human rationality.
Best,
Kimberlee

I was just on the phone with someone back home, discussing how I'm finding out so much...yet it's led me to be completely confused. I was actually looking here for a website you had cited at one point about Christianity. It's funny you should mention the Axial age as the beginning of philosophy, because it is when I began research in philosophy, my faith started to falter. Though, maybe the two can go together for an even more heightened understanding. Anyways, do think that myth is really for the purpose of fulfilling oneself? If so, then faith is irrelevant. I'm in an inquisitive mood. I feel so annoying though...I just find people who I think I can learn from and throw tons of questions at them. Sorry. Haha.

PS-Do you remember that website's link?

Dear John,
Thanks so much for your message. Perhaps sometimes one has to be "out there" to see the edge of possibilities...no?
I surfed over to the site you mentioned; so glad to hear that many voices are part of this important discourse.
More food for thought, I found an interesting interview with a Prof. of Middle East studies who believes that the lack of dialogue between secularist Muslim intellectuals and theologians may be helping to fuel the Fundamentalist tide in our world.
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/faith/interviews/makiya.html
It seems to me that in the realms of science, religion, politics and all other human affairs, compassionate conversation will truly have to be the means for negotiating our way forward. Community was, is and always will be the crucible for ritual, myth and the proving/winnowing ground for religious epiphany. It's just that the old, local sense of the word community has to be traded-in for its modern, global incarnation.
Best,
Kimberlee

Came upon you article above just after leaving another site that really deals swith this issue directly. Had thought that this site was a bit far out, but, maybe, after reading your comments, its far ahead. The site's url is: http://www.spaceagereligion.com .
